Dock Seals and Shelters provide your facility with the protection you need from not only the physical damage that can occur from the loading/unloading process but from Mother Nature as well. The protection provided by a properly installed Dock Seal and Shelter also provides excellent energy savings by maintaining the internal climate of the facility. This can translate into huge cost reductions, especially during the winter months or in a climate controlled facility such as cold storage.
A properly applied Dock Seal and Shelter will reduce costs and increase productivity by removing the most common barriers which may make loading or unloading difficult. Employees are provided safe access to product and will not have to concern themselves with obstacles such as a wet dock plate or the heat of a summer’s day.
There are two primary types of Dock Seals. Fixed head pad and Adjustable Head Curtain. A fixed head pad is the most economical and cost conscious installation. Foam pads are installed on all sides of the dock entry to seal any gaps between the vehicle and the loading area. These products are more than sufficient when servicing vehicles of the same size. An adjustable head curtain allows the dock seal to change elevations in order to create a custom seal depending on the vehicle being serviced. Although more expensive, the benefits can greatly outweigh the costs, especially in climate controlled situations.
Loading Dock Shelters are designed to service a wide array of truck sizes and types, regardless of the size of the loading dock door. When a vehicle is positioned in front of the bay door, the shelter wraps around the vehicle to ensure a properly sealed connection. The heavy duty construction and commercial grade fabric make Dock Shelters suitable for even the harshest applications. There are two common types of shelters, rigid and inflatable. A rigid shelter is comprised of rigid plastic and spring like foam that flex to create a tight seal around the vehicle. An inflatable shelter solution eliminates the wear and tear that is normally found in rigid applications by creating a custom seal around any vehicle type. Designed with tear proof fabric, inflatable shelters will provide long-term, trouble free service.
Dock door protection is a long term investment. The money spent upfront will pay for itself quickly as time goes on. Driving a semi-truck is not an easy business and backing one up is even harder. Dock Protection not only minimizes any damage that could occur but gives the driver a clear and visible target as they are backing up to your dock.
